At an Oscars ceremony that featured an extraordinary fight between Will Smith and Chris Rock, Coda was chosen best film of the year.

The Apple TV+ drama, which was purchased for a record-breaking $25 million at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021, is the first film from a streaming service to win the prize. It’s a remake of the French film La Famille Bélier, which focuses on a deaf family’s single hearing member.

“Thank you to the Academy for allowing us to make history,” Philippe Rousselet, producer, stated. Patrick Wachsberger, the film’s producer, praised the Academy for “recognizing a film about love and family at this tough time.”

Where to watch the Oscars 2022 full show:

The 2022 Academy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Will Packer and Shayla Cowan will produce, while Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes will host.

With 12 nominations, Netflix’s The Power of the Dog is the most nominated film this year, followed by Warner Bros.’ Dune with ten.

Lady Gaga, Chris Rock, Mila Kunis, Uma Thurman, Tyler Perry, Jamie Lee Curtis, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Hopkins, John Travolta, Jennifer Garner, Tiffany Haddish, Bill Murray, Elliot Page, Tony Hawk, Shaun White, Kelly Slater, Jake Gyllenhaal, Wesley Snipes, Rachel Zegler, Venus and Serena Williams are among the presenters for the Academy Awards.

Wil Smith Punched Chris Rock:

Will Smith rushed onstage and punched Chris Rock in the face in an apparently spontaneous action that surprised viewers and audience members alike after the comedian made a joke about the actor’s wife while presenting the best documentary prize at the Oscars.

Smith’s wife, the actress Jada Pinkett Smith, was reportedly in “G.I. Jane 2,” a reference to her short-cropped hair. Pinkett Smith has revealed that she suffers from alopecia, a hair loss disorder.

After returning to his seat, Smith raged and swore at Rock, asking that he not speak about his wife.

The transmission remained quiet on several screens during the heated debate, leaving viewers confused about what had transpired and what had been said.
