Dasvi, Abhishek Bachchan’s most recent film, might seem similar to the real-life story of Haryana Ex-Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who sat for his 10th board while in Tihar jail. However, the filmmakers claim their film has nothing to do with Chautala, despite the similarities.

One of the film’s writers (and producers), Sandeep Leyzell, pitched the idea to director Tushar Jalota in a recent interview. GoodTimes reported, “He gave me a one-line pitch about an older man sitting for his Class 10 exams. Because a lot of my family members are teachers and professors. We connected instantly. Even my mom was a professor at one point.”

Tushar said that is when they started building characters. “It was a simple one-liner. Then, we developed the world. The goal was to make it even harder. You put this man into a tough situation. That’s how we developed the character. Honestly, there was no inspiration. There was no research done to base the character on a real person. Those things were never even considered, During filming, we didn’t even discuss this. So all I can say is Dasvi is not a real story.”

However, the similarities remain: Abhishek’s character is also a chief minister, although he belongs to a fictional state. Abhishek’s character was also convicted for his involvement in a teacher recruitment scam, just like Chautala’s character who was convicted for his involvement in the JBT scam.

82-year-old Chautala wrote his Class X exam at a center set up solely for Tihar Jail prisoners in 2017 and scored 53.4%.
