The Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar who is known for her melodious voice has passed away at the age of 92 on February 6th, 2022. In memory of the legendary singer, two days of national mourning will be observed in India. The national flag flying at half-mast for two days, as a mark of tribute.

Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital on January 8 with covid-19 symptoms. She was taken to the intensive care unit. After recovering from covid, Lata Ji was put on ventilator support after her condition worsened on Saturday.

Lata Mangeskar was born on September 28, 1929, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She started her career at the early age of 13 after the death of her father. Her father was a well-known Marathi musician and theatre artist.

Prime minister Narendra Modi mourns  the loss of Bharat Ratna awardee saying,” The Coming generations will remember her as the stalwart of Indian culture whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerize people.”

Several other prominent people and film celebrities pay tribute to one of the greatest singers of the century.  

Actor Chiranjeevi took to Twitter and wrote, “Nightingale of India, one of the greatest Legends #Lata Didi is no more. Heartbroken The vacuum due to this colossal loss can never be filled. She lived an extraordinary life. Her Music lives on & will continue to cast a spell until Music is there! Rest in Peace #LataMangeshkar.”

Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu shared a condolence tweet, “Deeply saddened by Lata Mangeshkar Ji’s demise. A voice that defined Indian music for generations… Her legacy is truly unparalleled. Heartfelt condolences to the family loved ones and all her admirers. Rest in peace Lata ji. There will never be another.:”
