Analysis:

Positives:

With his confidence and swagger, Thalapathy Vijay carries the whole film on his shoulders. Throughout the action sequences, he looks stylish and neat.

Despite having little to do in the movie, Pooja Hegde looks good opposite, of Vijay. If not for the Arabic Kuthu song, one might forget that she exists in the film. A few scenes in the first half of the film do create a sense of comedy through tense situations.

This film is further enhanced by the music of Anirudh. He saved the action sequences from being boring if he didn’t work on them. In the Habibi song, Vijay performed superbly.

Weaknesses:

The full film lacks basic emotion, which is one of its biggest drawbacks. Despite tense situations being made silly, the film lacks the tension and emotion needed for a hostage drama.

Also, the story does not have any twists and has been showcased in many Hindi films at least ten years back in time. Except for Vijay, the whole cast is in shambles.

During the first half of the film, the plot of the hostage drama is well developed. However, things go downhill from there, as none of the thrills have an effect on the viewer. When a mall is hijacked, the government response looks clumsy and over the top.

Tech Details:

Anirudh, with his good songs and solid BGM, is the biggest asset of the film. The production design is good, as well as the camera work showcasing the vast mall setup. The editing is terrible since there are so many scenes, causing the film to drag.

Nelson, the director, has missed out on a superb opportunity given to him by Vijay. Vijay’s Intro scene was not up to the mark. He portrayed him as a raw agent and in a stylish action avatar. Although he showcased Vijay decently, the rest of the film flopped. In spite of having so much scope, the director fails to create any thrill, tension, or emotion. A few action sequences have been designated as well as some additions here and there. Although his previous film Doctor succeeded at creating humor in dark situations, he failed with Beast and disappointed his fans.

Conclusion:

In general, Beast is an action drama that fails in several ways except for a few laughs. Despite Vijay’s excellent acting, the film ends up as a huge disappointment due to the dull writing, execution, and emotional core. Beast film ends with yet another routine action drama.
