Bheemla Nayak Singer Kinnera Mogulaiah is awarded Padma Shri, check the full list of winners here

On the occasion of the republic day of India, Government announced Padma Awards. The list comprises 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 107 Padma Shri awards. Telangana artist Darshanam Mogulaiah aka Kinnera Mogulaiah is awarded the prestigious Padma Shri Award.  He sang a song ‘Ada Kadu Eeda Kadu..’ for Pawan Kalyan’s film Bheemla Nayak.

Mogulaiah is known for its cultural contribution in Telangana, reciting ballads and folk songs using his 12 stair Kinnera, a less known antique musical stringed instrument. He was born in Gattirayipakula village,Telkapalli, Nagar Kurnool. He currently lives in the Singareny colony in Hyderabad. His family has been engaged in making and playing the Kinnera instrument.

In an interview, Mogulayya said, “I am the last one to play this 12 step Kinnera,  with me the instrument and its music will be a thing of past, as nobody has learned how to play it from me.” He is supposedly the only artist to make and play a 12-stair Kinnera. The Department of Culture, Telangana has also made a documentary on Mogulayya to archive his work.

India’s first chief of defense staff general Bipin Rawat who died recently in a helicopter crash and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh were awarded Padma Vibhushan.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google CEO Sundar Pichai were conferred with Padma Bhushan awards.

Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam were awarded Padma Shri.
