Chris was born on 7 February 1965 in Andrews, South Carolina, U.S. He is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and director. Rock gained fame in the early 1990s as a cast member of Saturday Night Live after working as a stand-up comedian and appearing in minor film roles.

Additionally, he has appeared in a number of films, including Down to Earth (2001), Head of State (2003), The Longest Yard (2005), the Madagascar film series (2005–2012), Grown Ups (2010), Grown Ups 2 (2013), Top Five (2014), and a number of critically acclaimed HBO stand-up specials. In 2020, he starred in the fourth season of Fargo, an anthology series on FX. Based on his own experiences, Chris wrote the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris (2005-2009).
In addition to hosting the Academy Awards in 2005 and 2016, he has also won four Emmys and three Grammys. He has been ranked fifth in a survey sponsored by Comedy Central.
