Leo Box Office First Day Collection: Thalapathy’s film Crossed 100 Crores!

The Vijay-starrer Leo has taken the Indian film industry by storm with its record-breaking global opening gross. Outperforming big names like Rajinikanth’s Jailer, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, and Prabhas’ Adipurush, Leo has set a new benchmark for success. Released in theaters on Thursday, Leo has already earned the title of the biggest worldwide opening of the year across all Indian film industries.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film grossed an impressive Rs 140 crore worldwide on its opening day, while Pinkvilla estimates a global debut of Rs 145 crore. This puts Leo in a league of its own, surpassing the initial numbers of Prabhas’ Adipurush, which started with the same figures but experienced a decline after the first weekend. Following closely behind is Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which grossed Rs 129.1 crore on its opening day and currently holds the title of the highest earner of the year across all languages in India. However, Leo is not far behind, having achieved a remarkable Rs 1140.5 crore worldwide gross.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Leo faced numerous controversies surrounding its release in the Hindi and Telugu belts. Despite this, the film managed to make Rs 63 crore net in the domestic market and Rs 74 crore gross in India, although both figures fall slightly short of Jawan’s numbers.

In Vijay’s primary market, Tamil Nadu, the film did not have early morning shows but still managed to gross an impressive Rs 30 crore. In the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana market, Leo earned Rs 15 crore, while in Karnataka it grossed Rs 14 crore on its opening day. Kerala witnessed a record-breaking performance with Leo grossing Rs 11 crore. The film enjoyed an 86.92% occupancy rate in Tamil Nadu, with morning shows witnessing an occupancy rate of almost 86.35% and night shows reaching over 90% occupancy. With 1282 shows in Chennai alone, the film has generated significant momentum, but only time will tell if it can sustain the same level of success.

Leo has already surpassed the previous record set by Rajinikanth’s Jailer, which was the biggest Tamil film of the year. Vijay’s recent string of hits, including Master, Beast, and Varisu, has further solidified his position as a box office powerhouse. Notably, Leo is part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s shared cinematic universe, which also includes Kaithi and Vikram.

With its groundbreaking performance on its opening day, Leo has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the Indian film industry. Audiences and critics alike are eagerly awaiting to see if the film can maintain its momentum and continue to break records.
