Trailer

Thalapathy Vijay collaborated with phenomenal filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj on the action drama Leo. The film has been making waves since its announcement, and its buzz has now reached unparalleled proportions. According to the advance bookings, Leo would cause havoc at the ticket booths. Let’s see if this much-anticipated film lived up to the anticipation.

Story

In Theog, Himachal Pradesh, Parthiban (Thalapathy Vijay) owns a cafe. He is a typical family man, living with his wife Satya (Trisha) and their two children. One day, a gang attacks Parthiban’s cafe, threatening to kill his daughter and a worker there. With no other choice, Parthiban murders the thugs, putting his family in danger. While Parthiban is dealing with all of this, gangsters Antony Das (Sanjay Dutt) and Harold Das (Arjun) enter his life and mistake him for their family member, Leo Das (Thalapathy Vijay). What is the identity of this Leo Das? What went wrong with him? How did Parthiban manage to escape all of this chaos? The remaining portion of the movie revolves around this.

Plus Points

The first half of the picture is mostly entertaining. The pace is deliberately slow here. The hyena scene and the subsequent family drama immerse us in Parthiban’s world. The proceedings are not rushed. The goal was to neatly establish the characters and the protagonist’s situation. The cafe battle sequence is the film’s highlight.

Vijay’s vulnerability is brilliantly shown, and as a result, the action blocks (first hour) provide an ultimate high. Vijay is not only a star, but also a talented actor. Thalapathy Vijay’s acting talent is perfectly showcased by Leo. The first half’s fight scenes are expertly staged, and Vijay’s acting, combined with well-crafted action blocks, keeps the proceedings interesting.

The interval block is good, and it sets up the second half nicely. Leo features some great action sequences and superb photography. Trisha does well in her role. The pre-climax and climax sections of the film raise the pace. Yes, the film is a part of the LCU, and franchise fans have a few moments to rejoice. In the end, there is a small surprise.

Minus Points

The second half is usually crucial because it determines the film’s range. However, most films these days suffer from the second-hour syndrome. Unfortunately, Leo is also in this group. The way the flashback sections are written is genuinely shocking. Such dull writing would not be expected from someone like Lokesh Kanagaraj, who gives mindblowing films.

After the interval, the speed slows down once again and the plot doesn’t advance much. However, a couple of scenes keep things moving until the flashback sequence starts, which drags the movie down. Because of the poor writing, Sanjay Dutt and Arjun don’t have much of an impact. As previously said, the writing department is to blame here.

Priya Anand and other actors don’t appear in any significant roles. A crucial role, played by a well-known actress in the second half, is poorly constructed. The expected emotional scenes are underwhelming. The Telugu dubbing is excellent, however, the Naa Ready song is a huge letdown. During the cafe battle scene, a Tamil song plays in the background. It would have been preferable if the makers had utilized a Telugu song for the Telugu version. The minute details, such as vital paper clippings and information carved on a photo frame, were all in Tamil. These minute particulars really make a difference.

Leo Telugu Movie Review

Overall, Leo is an action entertainer who is heavily dependent on Thalapathy Vijay’s performance. Despite the slow pacing, the first half is fascinating, but the picture falters once the second half begins. The main flaws are the flashback scenes and the badly constructed characters. Leo is a member of the LCU, and there are a few memorable moments for franchise fans. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s charm is missing in Leo, and the film’s box-office prospects are dependent on Vijay’s popularity and the LCU factor.
