Nageswara Rao rose to popularity as a robber who outwitted police officers for years at Stuartpuram, Andhra Pradesh, a little 12,000-acre town along the Highway linking Chennai and Kolkata. Nageswara Rao, together with his friend Gajjala Prasad, carried out multiple robberies in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and other states, including bank heists, jewelry thefts, and other crimes. The partnership was infamous for its sly tactics and ingenious means of conducting business, but what set them apart was that they distributed the majority of their loot to the regular population. Even after Nageswara Rao and his associates were captured and imprisoned, the clever criminal would find methods to escape.

Death Of The Tiger

When Stuartpuram Nageswara Rao allegedly tricked the guards at the Chennai jail and escaped, he reportedly received the nickname “Tiger.” ‘Tiger’ Nageswara Rao and Gajjala Prasad, the stars of Stuartpuram, were purportedly killed in a staged encounter in 1987 by police authorities after running riot for decades. The inhabitants of Stuartpuram, on the other hand, showered him with love by giving ‘Tiger’ an appropriate sendoff with a lavish burial, and his monument was erected just next to the Stuartpuram train station.
