Box Office Showdown: Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki vs Prabhas’ Salaar – Distributors Refuse to Share Screens!

The battle for box office supremacy is heating up as two big movies, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar, are set to hit the screens over the Christmas weekend. The two movies are expected to be major blockbusters, which means that exhibitors are in for a chaotic time as they try to allocate the best screen count and showcasing for each movie.

Dunki vs Prabhas' Salaar

Dunki, a social comedy-drama directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is set to release on December 21, while Salaar, an action-drama directed by KGF’s Prashanth Neel, will hit the screens globally a day later. With two big stars headlining the movies and the release date being over the Christmas weekend, exhibitors are going to have their hands full trying to allocate the best screens for each movie.

According to sources, the Dunki team has given out a clause stating that they will not share the screen with Salaar. “The clause says, either give us all four shows or don’t give any. And if you don’t give us, then we will also see what to do in the future with other films,” the source revealed. While every distributor will try to give their best for showcasing, the Dunki team will only get some of what they want eventually.

However, the Dunki team’s perspective is that they were the first to announce, so they deserve priority. On top of that, Shah Rukh is coming with two Rs 500 cr films, so they will go all out to give it the best possible showcasing. According to Raj Bansal, a senior distributor and exhibitor in North India, Dunki will get more cinemas because of Shah Rukh, while Salaar will take the lead in the South because of Prabhas.

Bansal added that both the distributors, in this case, are big and have a good supply chain. “Single screens would normally opt for Salaar, but in certain cases, they will go with Dunki because of their distributor relations. It is a tough battle for single screen and stand-alone cinemas.”
